Landscape Maintenance Advice to Help You Find the Perfect Christmas Tree

Where to look:
Finding the perfect Christmas tree starts by knowing where to look. Luckily, in addition to great landscape maintenance tips, this blog can also point out that there are several great local Christmas tree farms in the Johnson County area. For a list of nearby farms and more information on them, click here.
What to look for:
The best way to tell if your real Christmas tree is fresh is to look for a healthy, shiny appearance. The needles should be flexible and not fall off the branches easily. You can check this by dropping the tree lightly on its stump. While evergreens lose needles all year, if it drops more than a few, it’s not a fresh tree.
Indoor Maintenance:
Just like with outside landscape maintenance, it’s important to take care of any plant you keep indoors. To take care of your Christmas tree, make sure to keep it watered but don’t overdo it. A few days before Christmas, move the tree to a spot with filtered light, but well away from drafts and heater events; a cool location is best. Make sure you check the size of this area before bringing the tree into it to make sure it will fit. A healthy, fresh-cut tree will last for four to five weeks if properly cared for.
Disposal:
At the end of the season, you’ll want to dispose of your Christmas tree properly. To do this, we recommend Johnson County’s tree recycling services. Recycling is offered by the county from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31.
